Differentiable optimisation, spiking neural networks and machine learning for particle physics.
Pietro Vischia is a Ramón y Cajal senior researcher at the Universidad de Oviedo and ICTEA, and Adjunct Professor at IIT Madras. He coordinates the MODE Collaboration and serves as the CMS Machine Learning Group coordinator for 2024–2026. He received his PhD from Instituto Superior Técnico in 2016.
His research explores high-dimensional optimisation, differentiable models and spiking neural networks for implementation in neuromorphic hardware. He also applies machine learning to Higgs-boson measurements and other particle-physics analyses in CMS.
As PHINDER’s WP6 lead, he brings this combination of algorithm development and experimental physics to the project. His Oviedo group works on surrogate models, spiking neural models and their co-design with the consortium’s photonic hardware.
